In last week's League Express, there was a letter from me about how mental health may suffer when players stop playing the game, when referees stop refereeing the game and when many supporters begin to grow old.
My suggestion to help stop or at least slow this down, is to start spending time each week writing a novel based generally on your own life, family and family history, work, hobbies, home town and your rugby league involvement. Many people who I have spoken to, think that is a good idea but then go on to say they they would just not know how to even start it. For the benefit of such people I have now written three pages of advice. I am in a good position to do this because since starting to write my first novel "One Winter" in 1988 while working as an electrical draughtsman for the CEGB, I have gone on to write half a million words in a series of six novels that stretch from 1961 to 2008. If you would like me to send you these pages contact me at wgeofflee@gmail.com and ask for Geoff's RL Writing Notes. If you prefer to read one of my novels first or get one for a Christmas present can I suggest my latest novel "Three Good Years" which is set between 2006 and 2008 and with a background of "Work, Family Life, Saving the NHS and Rugby League. It is available from the publisher London League Publications, visit them at http://www.llpshop.co.uk. click on Books and then Fiction. |
