To be fair every club has its bad elements but mostly good elements. A prime example, one of many, was this year the Cas v Wakey game at (old) Wheldon Road. I was there and got chatting to a Cas fan who was very pleasant, knowledgable and fair. He was actually waiting for his Wakey fan friend who joined him. We shook hands at the end of the match and wished each other well for the rest of the season.
I was bemused though at the small number of Cas fans in the Wakey end who had chosen to be there to be provocative. They were verbally antagonising a number of Wakefield fans. Then on leaving the ground I was on the phone when a random Cas fan walked past and gave me the V sign.
I know numerous Cas fans and know that most are decent, fair play fans who show respect.
Every club has bad elements. I was embarrassed and ashamed at Murrayfield a couple of years ago when a so called Wakefield fan threw a half full skiff of beer at some Bradford fans. In good humour the Bradford fans opened an umbrella which was well received and brought laughter to most of us.
I also recall Hull FC away a few years ago when I brought a young lad to his first match. With him being the son of a friend I obviously felt responsible and had to look after him. At half time there was a bit of commotion in chav corner at the KC and a couple of FC fans were thrown out. Knowing the type of fans who used to go to that corner I was not overly surprised but unhappy that the lad with me saw it. Then about 15 minutes later I was even more ashamed when a clearly inebriated Wakefield fan clearly resisted arrest from a police officer. It was a very low night for me as I felt ashamed for such things to happen when I love the game and want others to see how great it is.
All clubs have good and bad elements; show me a club which does not have a bad element. At the end of the day as fans we need to protect our game for what it is. Trouble fans should be excluded. If need be maybe we could suggest to fellow fans of our clubs to behave if we see bother.
As an aside, hard luck Cas for last Sunday, I thought your defence was really solid and Chase had a cracker, again.
Looking forward to seeing all genuine RL fans (of both clubs) at Belle Vue (RSS) in late August.
