Do you seriously believe that?? You really don't think on that occasion it was the total fault of the council?........l mean do you think the council would have spent £20,000 on a study, just to help Wakefield Trinity Wildcats 'smokescreen' the process of selection???
What I believe is that the announcement regarding Thornes Park's demise was not officially made until
after the Wildcats had (by the RFL's admission) just scraped through the franchise decision making process. I also believe that the Wildcats' franchise application was entirely centred around Thornes Park being a goer. As the RFL pointed out, Wakey clearly had "...no Plan B" to fall back on.
Yes, I would use the word 'smokescreen'. At best, the timing had staggeringly fortunate consequences for your club's franchise application wouldn't you say?
Incidentally, around this time the Wakey messageboard (sorry, I mean that part of RLFans which some people think of as 'the Wakey bit') was full of indignant Wakey fans calling the council leaders various shades of evil for not making any announcement
in the run up to the franchise decisions being made. Funny? I almost had a seizure...
But one thing I'm absolutely positive about is that, if Cas do end up having to try and pull the same trick, it'll be the Wakey fans who'll be first in the queue to moan about it.
