As Bonzo says, you were allowed to slow the game down - that's probably why. Although, I did note several times when your players failed to get back the ten.

The penalty at the scrum was one of the most ridiculous ones I've seen, to be honest as well.

Aye, that could be the case; Cas were perfect little angels and Wakey, aided and abetted by Mr Child, cheated their way through 80 mins of rugby.

Alternatively, your fans and players thought they could just turn up and bag the points and having racked up a few in the first half, got out-played and out-enthused in the second?

Re: Castleford v Wakefield : Wed Apr 27, 2011 11:27 pm
Now you're twisting what I said.

I did categorically state earlier in the thread and about three comments back that we collapsed and we made mistakes (dropped balls, missed tackles).

But I do find it hard to believe that one side was consistently bad and the other was near perfect, that's my opinion. Based on where I was stood, my belief is that several transgressions that should have been penalised were missed and I suppose that could be argued in any game for any side. Not just that, there were errors such as a blatant drop out - seen by everyone in the Princess St/WRE - given as a tap on the twenty with about 30 seconds remaining. Just little things missed and these all contribute in the grand scheme of things to the change in the tide that Wakefield lifted off the back of and got a roll on.

 How was Wakey allowed to slow the game down? Wakefield managed to slow your attack down because they started to win the forward battle and all the collisions in the 2nd half. Winning the collision is creating the platform of a successful performance. From that platform Wakefield was able to control the tempo and play at too high a leval for Cas to cope with, the conclusion...4 tries in less than 20! Stop making excuses for your forwards lack of bottle, you got dominated by a younger up and coming pack. Deal with it!

As or my concern regarding my side, yes we collapsed but it was still aided by the fact we got zilch from the man in the middle and my opinion will not change on that matter. The 8-2 penalty count in your favour is a reflection of that. I find it hard to believe that Wakefield were angelic in the second forty, getting back onside, being square etc.

The team that wins the collision/forward battle and is on the front foot is more likely to win a penalty, it's not that hard to work out. Nothing sinister from Mr Childs. You need to take them Black and amber glasses off, you might appreciate your rugby a bit more.

Can any team in superleague go a full 80mins without being offside/ offside at the play the ball - not standing square - no high tackles - no holding downs??? I doubt it.

Cas did not get 1 penalty given on any of the above. But as stated we lost it ourselves, giving up on the game too early.

So funny about the mugs though hahaha. Definitely Wakeys Cup final. Or is it Mug final? ;)

We didn't get one penalty for them mate, but there was plenty of it going on - that much was obvious from standing along the side - the psychological impact of that must've been pretty tough on the players. You're right though, we definitely gave up too early. They slowed the game down, as we knew they would; weak referee did little to deal with it; we got sucked into a scrap, heads dropped and we lost it badly.

Wakey did slow the pace down of your attack as our defence was on top at that point. From there wakey lifted their tempo they played the game and it caught the cas players out before they adjusted. I'd say good tactics.

However cas in some games will employ the same tactics and it will grab you a win. It was out day that's all. I just enjoyed the game.

Still maintain that the mugs are a marketing opportunity that the club is exploring. We will either sell some and it will be a success and financially rewarding or. . We won't sell many and it's tried tested and failed.

The fact that the club are expanding their range of merchandise and trying new things is something to be applauded IMO whether it works or not.

You can't slow the game down unless your winning the collision! Not only did we slow your attack down we upped the tempo in attack considerably. Why didn't Cas slow Wakefield’s attack down? Because they couldn't, they lost the collision!

There are rules governing slowing the game down though which weren't implemented consistently - this is my point. That is the way to beat Cas though because we struggle if we get sucked into a scrap. It's exactly what happened at Bradford when their spoiling tactics weren't dealt with. Fortunately against Catalans and Crusaders, we didn't get sucked in.
