Surely for 2005 and 07 the best way to grade it would be to put Cas on 13th position (Overhaul League standing), or the numbers won't tell the full story if them seasons are not included. Remember the argument is who has been the best team in the last 10 years, not 11 has you have put on your post. So the real comparison would be as follows.
Wakey Cas
2009 5 7
2008 8 12
2007 8 13
2006 10 11
2005 10 13 (that been generous considering you finished 2nd in NL)
2004 6 12
2003 11 8
2002 11 6
2001 11 6
2000 10 5
If we included 1999 we would be going into an 11 year window.
So we have the following average league finish position as follows;
Wakefield = 9
Castleford = 9.3
In head to head performances in SL we have the following;
Wakefield = 12
Castleford = 10
Again I've been generous by leaving out the 2003 CC beating we give you.
So their you go Wakefield win in both departments, Cas defiantly had the better of the first 5 years and Wakey the next 5 years. The most worrying thing for Cas is how drastic the balance of power moved in the district. All the momentum going into the future is undoubtedly with the Wildcats!
Why dont we extend the argument to the whole of the sl era? so for the first few years you finished 13th or worse, after all we can all change the times we are talking about to suit are own arguments, who won our last meeting i wonder? so in the super league era we have a higher average place finish, have done better in the cup, done better in the play offs, have been good enough to spend more time in the elite competion etc. etc.
