Club and International are completely different, at club level it is a business and in a business you get the best you can afford to be successful, in international you play the best of the available eligible players. We are just disagreeing on the eligibility terms.

But it's not the case in all sport. For instance, in Cricket, it's the international success that supports the county clubs, not the other way round. Team England is the business, not the counties.

| Not in the strictest terms though is it, it makes more money granted and the guys get the central contracts which earns them more than they would get from the clubs but you couldn't just plonk Shane Warne in an England shirt there are still eligability rules(even if they are loose), whereas Warne could play for any county with relative ease.

So why the difference in perception of who plays for county/country, then?

| He has let himself down and his country of origin,And all the other superleague clubs who are told u must be bringing your youngsters through as part of the criteria for a licence. If his child was born here there would be no problem with his child playing in years to come, but for all the people who say this is ok because of some strange made up rule then you are wrong and know u are.So does this mean he has made his bed and now cant play for newzeland ? .I for 1 am glad us widnes havent signed him,I used to love watching him play but have now lost faith in him.

You may feel more affinity to the south than a town you havent visited for years. In that case IMO you would have every right to call yourself a Londoner.

| Ok, speaking only from a point of view of my own personal opinion, Rangi, love him as a Cas fan, should never play/have played for England.
In my opinion the only two qualifications that should dictate your nationality are your place of birth and your parents nationality (i wouldnt even go as far as Grandparent qualification, and the only justification i accept as to parent nationality is to cover you if you are born whilst your parent/s are short term overseas - i.e holiday, short term working contract - not living in the country/emigrated) to give an example of this, my brother has now lived in Germany for over four years, he will always be English, his son was born in Germany and is two years old - even if my Brother returns to England to live, his son's nationality will always be German and the fact he has an English father will never make him English.
Now, like it or not, there are rules, regulations and laws in life we dont all like or agree with, we do however live by them.
Hull KR (i use you as an example - no dig intended) have to me worked around the rules of the game and the laws of the land to enable them to be in a position where the can have a squad including so many non uk players to give them the best advantage they can to achieve what they want to achieve (in there defence to give them further time to progress with a junior development system that has not had the same number of years to come to fruition as many of the other teams in super league) do i agree with it no, do i have to accept it - yes, as under laws as they stand they are doing nothing wrong.
Fact is wit Rangi we may not like or agree with it, McBanana is using the laws of the land and the game to give his side the best chance of being a success in the same way Austrailia and N.Z have in R.L and other countries have in other sports for many years.
I take my hat off to hime for making the decision he made and being sincere about his intentions.
My main point here be - Rangi is playing for England, and just as the narrow minded idiots thats boo'd Sam Tomkins, is it not time to stop the moaning, accept this is how it will be for this tournament and support the players pulling on the England jersey to represent our country ?

Even the residency argument doesn't hold sway
He has played for New Zealand Maori
He has played for the Exiles whose rules for qualifying where 'NOT BEING BRITISH'
He's as good as said i'm not a Brit went on record about wanting to play for NZ and then when he realised he was never going to shift Benji suddenly came up with the proud to be English spiel.
Going back to residency
Reed- born here, no problem
Heighington- English father no problem
Widdop- born here
Rangi lived here for 3 years and qualifies?
Why don't we just cherry pick the best 14 players from NRL stick one in each team exclude them from salary cap, pay them double what they'd get in Oz and kick ass 3 years from now?'"
Totally agree - that's the 'debate' over.

I must have missed Michael Shenton being selected for England, Brett Ferres in the England squad mid-season, Joe Arundel, Jonathan Walker in England Knights this season, Joe Westerman being selected for England train-on squad, Adam Milner captaining the Academy to victory over Australia in Ashes.
I have no doubt that Milner, Clark and Craig Huby will also be up for rep honours in the future if they can get back fully fit (in CH's case) and continue their progression.
