| Out of curiosity, if we wanted to sign Jarrad Hickey - could we? I presume we have money given Mathers has departed, he is in his prime and I cannot imagine him commanding a huge salary?
Looking at last season's prop debacle? Thoughts?

| Why would anybody want to sign that fat tub of goo?
Millington, Jackson & Walker will all be back early in the season if not by the Salford game. That leaves the team with only Huby missing and still having: Emmitt, Jackson, Walker, Millington, Massey and Nash for props.

Well, prime compared to me, let he without sin and all that! I will never see 26 again! I guess I mean as a 26 yr old front rower, he still has potential.
I always thought Ryan Tandy was a lardy waster and he got an NRL contract..... He has since soiled that somewhat but you get my point.

| Quota: Youngquest, Millington
Non fed: Youngquest, Grehan*, McGoldrick**, Chase***, Millington
* Grehan owns a British passport. Don't know if he counts as non-fed as trained outside country.
*McGoldrick possibly doesn't count now due to being in the country five years.
**Chase has played for England, not sure if this removes him completely or whether he remains non-fed.

| I understand the current allowance is 5 non-fed trained players of which all 5 can be on the overseas quota.
On top of that any player already playing in SL when the rules changed (about 4 yrs ago) is exempt from the non-fed trained rule. As such McGoldrick doesn't count as 1 of the non-fed trained players but he still fills one of the overseas quota spots.
So I believe our position is:
Non-fed trained: Chase, Youngquest, Millington, Grehan*
Overseas quota: Chase, Youngquest, Millington, McGoldrick
* I'm presuming that with both his parents being British, Grehan has a UK passport and so doesn't count on the overseas quota.
So Cas could sign another overseas player to take up the 5th non-fed trained spot and that player could also be on the overseas quota (ie. doesn't have an EU passport and can't claim KOLPAC status)
That said, looking at the number of overseas players some other clubs seem to have (Wakey have signed no less than 6 players that last season were plying their trade in the NRL) I'm wondering whether the RFL have done a crafty expanding of the allowance once again!?

As far as i'm aware we have only signed 5 players from the NRL; Collis, Southern, Smith, Aiton and John. We also have in the squad Lauitiiti, Tony and Mellars. Mellars is exempt as he was signed from Crusaders and Lauitiiti / Tony were here before the rules changed so i believe they too are exempt. I may be wrong and i'd love to know who this 6th person i've missed is?

Apologies - I got my figure of 6 from going through the NRL website that lists player transfers in and out of each NRL club. Looking at that showed 6 players going to Wakefield but just realised 1 of those was Jarred Hickey who left mid season last year and I presume hasn't been retained this year.

| McGoldrick doesn't count. He's been here in the UK five years, so can apply for a British passport, which gives him an exemption from the quota.
He still counts as non-fed though possibly as he was trained outside the UK, hence my list.
