Not too sure what I make of this to be fair!

On one hand I'm glad that Basil is allowing Owen the chance to make the Fullback position his own, like many others on here I believe it is his best position! On the other as I said above I'm not sure this is necessarily a good move!

Although many others on here would have liked to see a certain other player be sent out to free up some money.

Agreed, at this stage even keeping Mathers as a centre cum back-up FB/winger might have been safer than dabbling in the picked-over player market and definitely better than running on still fewer numbers.

Keith Senior, Michael Coady, Karl Pryce can all play centre and are released. I have heard that you were chasing Karl Pryce.

Have to give Millward a chance to build his own team, his own way. If he thinks Mathers is surplus to requirements then that's fine with me. At the end of the year we can all look back and see if he was right, but for now it does look like we have more fullbacks than we need and too few centres.

I also think after a bright start to 2011, Mathers fell off a cliff in terms of performance mid-year, and won't really be missed on the field. I've always found him to be a sound bloke though, so I'm glad he's sorted and hope he does well with Wakey... except when we play them.
