Live match-day 'entertainment' at the Jungle : Tue Feb 16, 2010 3:28 pm
Is it just me being an old f**t, or do other people find the live pre-match 'singing' a complete turn-off?

I'm happy enough with the dancing and pre-recorded music but cannot see what some z-rated nobody achieves by covering someone else's song live. I tend to stand in the Princess St terrace and the out-of-tune singing/shouting blasting from the enormous speakers is almost a health hazard. Even the Sky team normally comment and apologise. Looking around the terrace, I don't seem to see many people enjoying the experience.

I have taken to arriving about 5 mins before kick-off, but was early on Saturday and suffered accordingly.

Just wondered if I was in a minority?

The proplem was the sound system is terrible.

The first one all you could hear was her voice, you couldn't hear any music.

The young girl who sang second well i felt sorry for her cos it was bounding it down which didnt help with the sound.
Tbh i think we should just scrap these 2nd rate singers.
Lets have bon jovi lady gaga robbie williams, now that would get the crowds in :D

I think you're being a bit harsh.... Personally I find all the singing, cheerleaders, mascots and all the stuff not related to the game a bit pointless - but the kids and stuff seem to like it and far be it form me to moan.

I guess it is a question of taste, I would no rather see Bon Jovi or Iron Maiden as listen to a gate banging in the wind, so whatever you do will not please everyone!

Lap dancers and dr Dre that's got to be bang on for everyone surely? what's not to love?

I posted something similar elsewhere but I still argue that bringing in Z-list artists like we did the other night is a complete waste of money. Chances are whatever her name was didn't come cheap because she was once famous but I sincerely doubt her being there boosted any sales.

If we'd gone for an X Factor reject like some of the other clubs did, the performance might have been no better but there'd have been massive interest and the attendance would have been up as a result. As terrible as Jedward may be, kids love them and if kids hear they're playing at the Cas game then they're going to nag their parents to take them which is at least another 2/3 people through the gates.

For me, we either bring in a relatively big name to bring people through the gates or we don't bother.

The first game of the season should have been about attracting as many fans as possible in hope that they would come back again and the club failed on the entertainment front IMO. There was talk from the club of how much of an honour it was for such an act to play on Saturday...I'm no expert in business but I'm pretty sure that these sorts of decisions should be made with boosting revenue in mind as opposed to being able to say that we had some unknown former celebrity playing at the ground.

The club only proved just how out of touch they are.

As a part time singer performer I can honestly say I'd have to be paid a small fortune to do a pre-match slot... the sound set up is generally garbage, the 'stage' is totally isolated and the audience isn't the least bit interested in what you're doing.... it's a complete hiding to nothing. Whatever you feel about the quality of entertainment you have to concede they've got real b*lls to give it a go.

Should live pre-match be dropped? Well clubs have finally woken up to the fact that there are large segments of inactivity in your average matchday experience and I think it's a good thing they look to fill those gaps and keep folk entertained. It's never going to be easy finding something everybody which in the ground finds entertaining, but I don't think that's a good enough reason to forget about it. ATEOTD if whatever's on offer isn't your thing there's always the option of hitting the bar and reading your latest Aye. ;)

If only that would happen. It would have to be a full Iron Maiden concert and not 15 minutes.
