Reality check and the ones which got away! : Mon Mar 19, 2012 2:04 pm
As a Cas fan it goes without saying that I'd love to see them win every game. But realistically against 50% or more teams in the league we go into the game as the under dogs, and as fans we then tear the our teams performance to shreds in reaction to the result of a game at which we were always trying to punch above our weight.Of the 7 games that we've played so far, there were 3 games that we should definitely have been looking to win. 1 which was a 'hit or miss' and could have gone either way and 3 that were we would always be up against it and the avoidance of a hammering would be a realistic outcome to expect.
Wigan, Leeds & Huddersfield are good strong solid teams and hence why they occupy 1st, 2nd and 4th position in the league. On their day they are more than capable of making any team look very average, if not poor, and all 3 of them did against Cas! Yes we would like to have seen more effort from our boys, we can nit pick about refereeing decisions but are we really that shocked at the result?
Away at Catalan, is not an enviable game for any team looking to take the points. ....and alright the disappointing thing for us is how close we came, only to let it slip away in the last few minutes! But realistically does any team pencil in 2 points on to the league table in expectation of an away win at Catalan?
For me the Bradford, London and Salford were the games that we should be realistically have been looking to take the 2 points....and on two of the three occasions we didn't. So keeping things real, IMO, we've only dropped 4 realistically achievable points.
Under the tragic circumstances I don't think that dropping 4 points is too bad, but what we now desperately need is a win. A win upon which we can start to build some momentum. We need to get behind Millward as our coach, and give him our fullest support! The last thing he needs is a kicking from the fans at a time when he must understandably be in a very dark point in his life.
On Sunday, we've got Hull FC at home, let's get behind Millward and the boys. Again it is a game in which we are the under dog, but it a game that we could sneak a win and start to get our season back on track!
C'mon Cas!!!
