Andy Hobson. : Sat Jul 04, 2009 2:31 am
Felt sorry for Andy tonight, i remenber him coming through the ranks at fax and at that time there was no better player running onto the ball and getting the crowd going. Young, strong, keen and never took a backward step..
Granted he was in a good team but i cant help thinking that if he had better guidence he would have been a bit special?( anyone else read Malcom Reileys book) ?
I have to admit to feeling gutted to see him playing tonight and being a laughing stock for the fans that used to support him.
I remember talking to Stuart Fielden when Hobson ( and Fielden) was in his prime and him saying his nickname at Bradford was turnstile because he used to put his arm out in a tackle and if you ran at the arm he would spin round and round then fall over on his backside.
Thanks for the memories Hobbo.

Its been a massive fall from Grace, There's not a single other Ex-Fax player who comes to the Shay and gets treated anywhere near like Hobbo.

You've got to have a dream, if you don't have a dream, how ya gonna have a dream come true?

Are you claiming all you are entitled to? www.debtadvicenetwork.org then go to "Self Help" then "Benefits & Entitlements".

Andy is s sound guy regardless of what he's like on the pitch, but I don't think he's been the same since he had that really bad break on his cheek/eye socket, a bit like Shads.

I feel sorry for Andy too ,when he was younger he was tipped for Great Britain , I too felt upset when our fans started to make fun of him . I know to some extent he "makes a rod for his own back" by trying to kill the Fax players instead of geting on with the game but I still remember the young lad who came through our club. I sponsored him for years and believe you me he was one of the nicest lads about. He was always respectful and you never saw him geting into trouble in the nightclubs which was prevelant at our club in those days. We have sponsored umpteen players over the years but it still choked me when he left to sign for Widnes. He pulled up outside the house with the bigest bunch of flowers I had ever seen, he said he had just signed for Widnes and he wanted to let us know personally before we read it in the paper. He wanted to thank us for all the support we had given him from being a youngster and it wasn`t just us.I heard several of the people at the club like the kit men got gifts too.

It`s not too often you get that from players , years ago they did`nt even know who their sponsors were let alone build up a relationship with them.
I didn`t like it at all when he was being goaded I wonder if it`s time to hang up his boots.

Well, that story just goes to show that players aren't often what they seem to be. Lovely post that.

As been said, has/had the potential to be a top forward at this level.......... just makes too many stupid mistakes for me and gives away too many penalties.
You cant do it in this league.

Maybe a great example of folk "judging books by the cover" I suppose ... the majority of fans only see what's on the pitch, and I'm afraid in Hobson's case it's him being a liability to his team mates and who's constantly looking for trouble. He did look a pathetic sight last night I'm sorry to say, maybe he's too wound up when he plays against Halifax?

supporting Halifax through thick & thin!

He didnt do himself any favours whinging to the Courier about the criticism the players were getting.

He may be a nice lad off the pitch & I agree he did show potential when he was younger, but now he's just a laughing stock who tries to be the hardman by throwing high shots, trying to wind up the oppo's.

He doesnt work hard enough for the Leigh team in the times Ive seen him play, especially in the NRC game when he touched the ball only once in the second half!

I agree ,my earlier comments were a personal reflection of a young man who played for us ,his home town team. Who was tipped for Great Britain and gave his all for his home town club. Was quiet and respectful off the field and did not take part in any silly "Halifax players " antics that went on at the time.
As I have said he seems to now concentrate more on damaging the opposition rather than trying to outplay them and it has gone on for some time. So rather than see him ridiculed in that way I just wish he`d give up I don`t like to see it happen to any player least of all a young local lad.
There were times last night he was that intent on harming one of our players he missed the fact the ball had already traveled through another 2 pairs of hands and he was still targeting the origional player.

After he got sent off at Fev in the cup earlier in the season, he came back a different player and really looked to have turned a corner, getting MOM a couple of times and generally resembling the player that we'd thought we'd signed.

Since then, however, he's slowly slid back in to his old ways and is currently mounting an attempt to get the world record for penalties conceded in a season :(
