Re: Chris Thorman : Thu May 02, 2019 4:17 am
I don't think Grix is the answer. I'm not doubting the guys credentials as a player, his rugby acumen and the respect her garners from the playing group but the appointment has to be a deeper one. Appointing Marshall was about building a sustainable club with the reserves and academy. He had a long apprenticeship at Warrington, working in a great system over many years and he will be a better coach when he takes on his next job. Whilst respect and belief in a system is integral, being a coach in professional sport has evolved with science and analytics, even psychology. While we clearly won't have such resources to call on and if Grix is given the job, he needs some kind of experienced assistant(s) whose also going to make him a better coach as well. I know someone on this forum mentioned that senior players would take training etc and so maybe he has already been building his capabilities under Marshall's guidance. Can only wish the guy good luck if he his appointed.

Simon would possibly be a good coach, who knows? I just feel we need to get away from taking the easy option as Fax have done so often and at least that would stop the feeling of Fax being a jolly old boys set up. Somebody, preferably not an ex forward, with no Fax connections for me. Obviously if the BOD decided that Simon was the man they wanted he would have our 100% backing. Up The Fax!

my two penneth....

ideally, Rowley for me all day long but that's going to come at a cost (and its clear to see we probably dont have the money to cover it).

Lets see how Grix goes. Clearly he's switched on, hes a talented player and already has the respect of the players. Agreed, there's no coaching experience but fingers crossed he surprises a few people and we'll see how he gets on.

Grixy may do well over a trial period but don't give him a 3 year contract on back of it..

I hope he does well because that means Fax will but as you say any contract award needs to be well thought out.

Even when it has been no one has a crystal ball as to how things will turn out.

Also with the above in mind a fact of rugby league life is that every coach and every club at some point will hit harder times and the results just won't happen, look at Leeds and Wigan for current examples.

Fax with their resources in comparison are even more likely for this to happen whoever's in charge and sadly when it does it's all the fault of a useless BoD, coach, some of the players etc etc.
