They still need to "win" something in my opinion. I agree with much of the criteria but i would also add in that you have to win a GF within the three year window and NOT just appear in the final or win that tatty NR cup. There must be a "points" system for that AND league placings in that window too. What's happening to Widnes right now is in part a lot to do with forgetting all about where it matters - on the pitch. They went up with no winning mentality at the club whatsoever. They were handed the right to play with the big boys by two geeks in suits. They had no momentum. They were abysmal competitors in The Championship and now they're paying the price for that mentality. They say P&R damaged the credibility of the game. It's replacement is doing far worse in my opinion. I've no doubt Widnes will come good - if only because they have O'Connor there but they need to get a winning mentality - something which they haven't had for about five years.

Rich - I still have an ominous feeling about Toulouse, don't you?

Not saying Fax are ready for super league here and being aggrieved, but it does feel a little bit like crusaders all over.

Moved out if the championship - they now play to different rules. Men in suits courting them. It's starting to feel like they're nailed on.

They'll be welcomed with open arms - a team that struggled in the championships and hence had to be removed to save face on any future licensing decision.

Instead of expanding the sport in Toulouse it will just kill another club with good rugby league people in it!

If Toulouse were pushed up, I'm not so sure where my position in support of the sport would be, with that on top of everything else. I know I'll just be seen as one supporter and a "flat capper" who's best off out of it, but surely I can't be alone?

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity

Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

The RFL committed to promoting at least one Championship side so long as they meet the criteria. At present Fev, Sheffield and Leigh have met the on field req. If Fev somehow manage to meet the off field requirements they will be the best of the bunch. However the RFL announce the criteria at the last moment so they could easily make the average attendance requirement 5k.

To tell the truth, I'd be a lot happier with the RFL if they did set a more realistic level of off field criteria , 2,500 is nowhere near enough to build in SL, a higher standard would mean they would have to try much harder both for the Championship clubs and the under performers of SL

Maybe thats why they dont set higher levels, it would mean having to make an effort to reach it, to me they have accepted we will never be able to build ourselves any bigger than we currently are, and that is wrong, as that doesn't challenge the top tier to step up

Sadly, I think your right.

When they do get a license for Super League, how many fans from the Championship will just give up completely?
