Is it worth working with Calderdale College and doing a Quick Survey/Questionairre and asking people in and around the calderdale area things like

Do you like Rugby League?
Have you heard of Halifax RLFC?
When was your last visit to watch Halifax RLFC?
What would get you to watch Halifax RLFC?
Whats your impression of Halifax RLFC?
Would you join the club Lottery?
Would you buy a season ticket?

I would also maybe look to target women more. Often its women who control the family budget and if you get them onside they likely the family will attend rather than just the guys.

There was nothing "sporting or fair" about the way Bradford pinched our crowds and they started with the kids.I know that for a fact as I answered the phone at my school (Sowerby Bridge area) many years ago it was Bradford offering to send the Bully Roadshow to the school so they wanted to know when the school gala was. They were going to send a couple of players free tickets and Bully.I declined and said they should not be poaching from our school as we were Halifax area. Plenty of schools did take them up on it as the Courier was full of the pictures for weeks.

This one you will not believe but is perfectly true, a few weeks back the same school where I am still involved sent me an invite to go along one afternoon to a special event run by Huddersfield Town they brought along a pair of goals and a development lad from Hudderfield ran a sponsored penalty shoot out.The kids at school took the sponsorship forms home and they raised over £900 and the proffesional football club took HALF OF IT.

Then a week or two after they all got special invites through the school for the Giants game I was in the playground when the kids were coming out and the invites were not even free they were just a cheaper price .But guess what the kids were asking their mums if they could go so the families were organising themselves into driving rotas and the like.My grandchildren were deciding who they were traveling with as well and they have Fax season tickets I was furious as we had a match that day. Thankfully they did not go but plenty did.
So don`t feel guilty nobody else does .

Why did htafc take half of the sponsorship? Was it anything to do with their main sponsors... Yorkshire air ambulance.

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

I posted this on the Cougars site when they were discussing how well Burnley FC did in getting a high percentage of the towns population to watch them

How useful would it be to your club if you ,Fax,Hunslet,Doosbury and Batley all paid [ Via RFL funding ] for one ' marketing ' person each

So you would then have a team of 5 people available to each club for either one day a week or better still two days a week before a home match to get into your town centres/supermarkets/schools to push your upcoming games

Yes you would need a bit of money to offer deals to promote family tickets and the like

But the point being it is very difficult just having one person trying to ' DO ' everything

Having a team of say 5 motivated people controlled by either a club manager or better still a RFL funded marketing expert with responsablility for and to the 5 clubs in the area would be a much better idea surely

Communication , collaboration and inspiration is what is needed , your club led the RL world a few years back

Maybe it is the time to do it again

What is needed is a plan , some money , some organisation and a mentallity of working together

Also, inregards to someone saying they don't know when the matches are, how about putting an A4 stand in the window display at Harveys with a sheet in saying when the next game is. plenty of people must glance in as they walk past?

.............. and how much traffic travels on Huddersfield Road? Better visibility advertising of forthcoming matches will catch the eye of potential "customers". We need to try and make the people of Calderdale feel like they're missing out on something. The 13 match winning run certainly should have helped in this regard but it needs to be backed up with plenty of quality advertising.

Yes I would think it was although it did not say so on the sponsor form they organised it and brought along a big pair of goals that flashed up the scores.
But the point is somebody has these ideas and does them they don`t bother that they may be treading on someones toes like the Giants tickets they knew we had a game that day but were they bothered ? No.

Always said this , let the blokes go to the pub and watch the footy

The target should be to get Mum to bring the kids as they are the future , Mum also buys the xmas and birthday prezzies

So instead of mum bringing little Johnny on his free ticket you want little Johnny paying to bring Mum on her free ticket

Having the idea's is the easy part [ as it is in any business ]

Executing the idea/plan is the problem , especially when you either dont have enough people to actually ' run ' something

Better to have a two day ' blitz ' marketing the next game during the week of that game by a group of people rather than having one person trying on their own every day of the week

I feel the RFL should do more to help market the game at all levels. The game is never properly promoted. I know people have rung up the RFL about info on France v England and struggled to get a clear answer on when and where its happening! The game is crying out for somebody to grab hold of it and properly market the game not just at the top level but all the way through down to the amateur level.Has there ever been ANY Adverts about playing or watching RL on TV or at the Cinema? How do you expect people to know where to watch or become involved with it if they do not get a local paper or a RL paper? The people running our game are sadly clueless and are happy just going as we are.

I think this is an excelant idea you see youngsters around town doing surveys all the time in fact you could ask the senior schools ,their top years get into marketing and such maybe could get ideas from them.

You are also spot on about the women,I do think women have a contributory factor in this I witnessed this when I had a pub.
The women were all right while they knew matches were Sun afternoon every week but one time when we moved down to the Shay they kept swopping the times and days about. The women got fed up as men are not very good at forewarning so the women said they could not go as they had arranged something else.
Like you say you have to get them to come along too but make sure the toilets arn`t swimming and the seats in the stand are cleaned of bird muck cos one thing ,women don`t like is unsanitory conditions.
