I have to agree with Tortured Soul about the unruly element creeping into our crowds at the Shay. It is noticeable that football type chants and agression towards visiting supporters is on the increase and nothing is being done, by whoever, to stem it.
I returned to RL and the Fax over 20 years ago after becoming hugely disillusioned with the attitude of supporters at my local football club (and in football generally) and despite witnessing some 20 years of success (on and off!). I'd been a supporter of Fax before previously moving myself over the hill for work purposes into a totally non-RL area.
It was a joy to return to Thrum Hall and to be a part of a crowd that was knowledgable about its sport, did not have organised obscene chants and was appreciative of the abilities of the visiting teams and respectful of their fans. I fear this wonderful attitude and atmosphere, like Thrum Hall itself, is, to a degree, sadly at risk of becoming a thing of the past.
What with the ridiculous scrapping of P & R and the double standards operated at Red Hall, along with the rise of what I would call the 'wrong sort' of supporters for our wonderful game, my disillusionment with rugby league is growing by the week.
On the field the game can inspire as well infuriate and I make these general comments despite the successes or failings of Fax.
