Benefit or Hindrance? : Mon Aug 03, 2009 11:24 am
just been havng a quick look through other teams remaining fixtures, Widnes and Barrow have some tricky fixtures left to play.

but the the thing that is interesting me most is Widnes. They play their last league game on the 22nd August. Now if they finish 2nd then they will have 4 weeks off before the play off game on the 20th September. can't work out if that's a benefit or a hindrance?

I think if they had an extra week off it would be a benefit, as they could patch up a few bruises etc, but to have 4 weeks off can not be a benefit, as the players need to keep match fit.

4 WEEKS  if we finish 2nd. its hardly worth finishing 2nd. if we did we would be rusty come the play offs. rfl needs to look at the way they devise fixtures for the championship leagues. a month off it might as well be pre season.

It'll give you plenty of time to queue up for your tickets in advance of the next game & find somewhere to park your bus :?

I hate these bye weeks for clubs, but he RFL in there wisdom put 11 teams in the league. The sooner they add another team the better, i just cant keep track on when everyone is playing. To have a potential 4 weeks off is silly, i undertand the point about fitness, however at this stage of the season they will be as fit as they ever gonna be, it will allow their players to get over little niggles etc.... It could see this working both ways.

Any bye weeks at this stage of the season is a benefit, points in bag, players having a break etc... we had our at the start of the season so therefore have to play catch up to the rest, surely if the fixtures were done right in two half, every team would have a bye in each half of the season.

Having a week off, or even 2, before the playoffs is a plus but having 4 weeks off is not good. No matter how much you train there is no substitute for match fitness and a break like that could leave a team really stale. I don't envy Widnes in that respect.
