Steve Prescott Completes Another Challenge : Mon Jun 13, 2011 1:48 pm

Former England international Steve Prescott, who is battling stomach cancer, has raised £20,000 from a gruelling nine-day challenge.

Prescott cycled from Land's End to John O'Groats and climbed the highest peaks in Wales, England and Scotland en route.

The 37-year-old ex-St Helens, Hull and Wakefield full-back has twice run the London Marathon and completed a 900-mile ride from Perpignan to Windsor Castle since being diagnosed with his illness in 2006, but described his latest challenge as the toughest.

"I don't think any of us realised how tough it was going to be," said Prescott, who completed the ascent and descent on Ben Nevis on Saturday in under six hours.

"I felt like packing it all in on several occasions but it was all worth it in the end.

"It was a fantastic feeling crossing the line at John O'Groats - we all felt amazing. It has been an unforgettable nine days."

The Steve Prescott Foundation has now raised £280,000 for Christie's Hospital in Manchester and the Rugby Football League's benevolent fund.
