It seems they are determined to press ahead with the tax reductions for the wealthiest 5% in the country, which, according to those well qualified financial folk, can only be done if public spending is massively reduced.
Austerity 2 coming soon to a town or city near you and certainly nothing close to an inflation matching pay rise for public sector workers.
We also have a position where, due to huge increases in interest rates (with more to come) many people with a mortgage will be paying much, much more, which will completely negate any help given with the "energy crisis" cap.
Much of this is as a direct result of the "mini budget" and our new leader has poured oil on the fire with a series of car crash interviews, with local radio stations, this morning.
There has been some absolute quality questioning from the local stations by broadcasters who were somewhat better prepared than our new PM.

The Radio Leeds presenter, after a brief introduction, asked, "where have you been ?"

Somebody in Truss’s advisory team is getting sacked for this ‘local radio’ strategy

What they don’t seem to have factored in is that local radio presenters don’t need to worry about being sanctioned by the PMs press team.
They understand that they’ll get one chance to hold the PMs feet to the fire and they’ve almost all grasped the opportunity with both hands

“You are playing a game of football this afternoon but more than that you are playing for England, and more even than that, you are playing for right versus wrong. You will win because you have to win. Don’t forget that message from home. England expects every one of you to do his duty.”

The thing is, I knew it was coming. Boris Johnson got caught out on look North for the same reason, sheer unjustified arrogance.

Those "small time" local radio presenters certainly took their chance.
Each one was better briefed on their own subject than the PM, who frankly, looked a long way out of her depth.
It also has to be said that the fall out from the "mini budget" has been unprecedented and the utter nonsense that is now coming out, as to why they didn't ask the OBR to provide a report, is just bloody cringeworthy. Some drivel about it not being completed or that it was work in progress, wow.

The result is that interest rates are now going through the roof (relatively speaking) and that, in terms of having effect on consumer spending power, increased mortgage payments will dwarf the energy crisis.

It must be the worst "honeymoon period" in political history, it's like Truss and Kwarteng have both been unfaithful on the first night and that they are trying to find a way to break the news to their relatives. Oh dear.

"Brian McDermott, with a wry smile, nods when asked if he remembers a specific incident which made him realise he was a prick. 'I do', he murmurs."

This shambolic lot are u-turning faster than the disciplinary panel at the sight of a St Helens player.
