No sky sports access- what now???? : Mon May 30, 2022 8:48 pm
We have just cancelled our sky subscription. There are trees at the side of our house which have been getting in the way of our satellite dish signal, the dish ended up on a long pole last year and this year we have a disrupted signal again. The engineer came out and has said there’s nothing more he can do. We still get our internet via copper cable so sky glass is out of the question. -the joys of living in a rural area! We therefore decided to cancel our sky subscription- so I have a question- what now in terms of accessing- well - what can we access????

We get 1-3mbps using our current broadband- we are still on copper cable- no access to cable or fibre -would this work?
we have been promised city fibre are on their way- but not convinced they will come as far as us as we are quite rural.

Any chance of you getting a 4G or 5G router with unlimited data? Could be a better option.

Possibly. Currently tether to my phone (unlimited) when WFH as it’s better for zoom calls. Might be the way to go- then look at getting now tv.
Our current line speed according to sky - our provider- is 5.6mbps- but actual download speed we are getting is about 1.2-1.5mbps.
Has anyone tried satellite broadband- wondering whether that would be worth a try. Seems that it’s expensive and limits on data.

I´m getting around 20mbps download on 4G, the issue is upload which is around 0.5mbps which isn´t great for Facetime etc but seems to be okay for zoom. I do live in Spain though and it might be much better in the UK. I´d image that 5G is perfectly fine. I use 4G for watching SkyGo which is pretty good most of the time, occasional pixelation. Netflix and BBC are fine on 4G.

5G coverage is patchy where we live - but I get excellent EE 4G coverage on my phone, download in excess of 30, upload is about 12. problem is EE seems really expensive for home use - unlimited is over £60 a month which seems extortionate! otherwise data is limited to 200MB which would go nowhere with two teenagers.
3 seems the best in terms of price but for some reason when I've been on their site their 4G broadband isnt available for my address but they are coming up with MiFi options - im not technical enough to understand why!
