I suggest the problem is illegal immigrants , doesn’t really matter in which part of the country they are placed. A decent hotel in York is full of them, I can fully understand the rush to get out of France, when the reward is a place in one of the countries nicest cities. As opposed to sleeping in tents in Calais. Anyway congratulations ,you have managed a posting without the mention of Boris Johnson

Surely that would be dePffell Johnson

Not to mention the circa 3 million HK residents who have been told they can come ?

It's the shipping people off 4000 miles, to a country not renowned for it human rights that is wrong.
If this was China or Russia, we would be rightly pointing the finger and saying how it was wrong but, Ms Patel seems capable of almost anything and it's up to the decent folk in her party to keep her (and Boris) in line, something which, to date, they have shown little appetite for.

Incidentally, which country are your friends coming from ?

Costa Rica and Indonesia. The lad who has been granted residency status is from Costa Rica is a highly skilled craftsman. To enhance his application he worked withot pay (genuine) for one company . He now has a good job with that company ,he has other companies chasing his skills.
The other applicant is an oil rig engineer , he married a Christian girl from one of the islands. At the moment they won’t even let her into the country, sadly his father is at the end of life with MS. So he will have to come back without her, He has been married to her for approximately 5 years. I was surprised just how much the application process cost.

I find it amazing when it is the Conservatives it is always all the others are doing the same or if they fail to legislate it was the same for many years regardless who was in charge.
I ask has Johnson produced the 100 contracts that he failed to declare despite being instructed to do so.

Blumming heck that how easy was that. :LIAR: :D

Yes but I have moved on to just de Pfeffel because that better describes what he spouts.

No matter what we do they will keep on coming, this for them is the land of milk and honey, free money, Patel is at least trying to deter them, but the do gooders, rights lawyers, and scrounging charities, will keep them coming, keep them here, to line their own pockets, they have crossed many safe countries, so broken international law, they are by definition criminals, you try it see what happens to you, just how many are we prepared to take, don’t forget this is only the advance party, once settled it will be the tern of the wives, some will have more than one, the children , mothers farthers, brothers, sisters, millions, no joke, we were full decades ago.

indeed LOL.
You've been lapping up the twaddle written in the daily fail and spouted by the likes of waxy lemon. So many holes in that argument its like a string vest so I'm not even going to try to unpick it. But here's a little food for thought. a massive part of the reason why these people come here is because of people like you.
The Brits went out there and made the empire, they forced people to speak English and so now they do, they forced their ways and customs on them so now the people feel like they understand the country. They come here because they speak our language and know our ways and customs. They dont speak German, French, Italian or Greek. But those countries by the way have all taken more asylum seekers than we have. HTH.

I think your theory on why they wish to come to U.K. is slightly flawed - certainly based on figures to Sept 2021.
More likely to have been part of the Ottoman Empire or under Italian rule for considerably longer than any U.K. rule.

The British empire existed to "civilize" the rest of the world.
It lingered after the ottoman empire ceased and so its influence will remain after. Which other language do they most likely speak Turkish, Italian or English? Why do you think this is the case? If you had the choice where would you rather live, in a place where you spoke nothing of the language and knew nothing of the country, or where you could get by and had some idea of the history of the place?
