Some Salford fan said to me and I quote "You are by far and away the most Handsome & Knowledgeable Rugby League Fan in England!"

I thanked him and went on my Merry way!

As a cricket fan do you think he was a better bowler than Muttiah Muralitharan?

Impossible to have a definitive answer

Muralitharan was the main/dominant bowler for SriLanka for 90% of his career and the whole attack built around him, whereas Warne missed periods (some his own fault some through injury) and had to play for a big section of his career second fiddle to the Quickies in the team.

Just on pure stats Muralitharan just edges it, but dig deeper and you can see his stats obviously are lopsided based on spin friendly Sri Lankan wickets. Muralitharan didn't obviously perform as well away from home, particularly in Australia

Whereas I believe Warne was more consistent across all countries/surfaces he played in/on.

2 of the Greatest, if not the greatest spin bowlers.
Warne Contributed better fielding and with the bat and imo though his vice captaincy etc on the field.

Pleasure to watch both

Deaths of famous people don't often hit me, but this has. Probably the biggest sportsman of my 'generation' to pass away. (I'm 36).
Just a fantastic player. You thought every ball would be a wicket. The 2005 Ashes series will always be my favourite sporting series.

Same here - And drawing a parallel the Death of Mike Gregory late 2007 (When I was 35) hit me similar

WRT to Warne, I'm 50 now and remember the Gatting "Ball of the Century" and watching it on BBC like it was yesterday.
It changed the game, they way it was played, it inspired a whole generation of Cricketers who played the game in a more attacking/positive way. I mentioned previously that it changed the game was perceived also, from being played in Qtr full stadiums within 5 years or so the International game was playing to full houses and along with T20 made the game "Cool" instead of dull & old fashioned for a newer generation.

(RL needs the same injection IMO)
