On the subject of a few big or many small capacity cards: it used to be the received wisdom that many small were preferable because in the event of loss or failure you only lost a few of your pictures. I think that the quality of today's cards (or at least those from reputable manufacturers and sources) negates the failure aspect to a large degree but, of course, is no help if you physically lose the card or if it gets "tidied up".

it was this time last year that I posted on here that I'd lost a whole holidays worth of photos (300 or so) from a memory card that was still working but seemed to have partitioned itself so that it only showed the pictures from the last day, following advice on here I downloaded some commercial software to recover everything (it cost about £30) and then reformat the card from the PC with the card in the camera attached via USB - has worked fine since but I'm very suspicious about it now and will replace it if I ever need to use it for valuable photos or prolonged use.

I can't quite understand why anyone would leave on the card, as soon as I have access to my lpatop or PC they are copied and backed up.

I mistakenly put a 2GB card in when I was at Banham Zoo, it was full in under 3 minutes. Any how, just ordered a couple more 16GB Trancends, at just over £15 delivered I can't complain. Just as we pulled up in the car in Blackpool having driven over from Hull announcement on the radio, tonights international fireworks have been cancelled due to high winds.

are you using the 7D "freehand" or with a tripod of some sort, it's a cracking camera but fairly heavy??

All those pics were handheld with a 70-200mm f2.8 plus a 1.4x extender and the battery grip, yes it's heavy but not overly, I can happily walk around all day with it on a Black Rapid strap without breaking a collarbone.
