If the UK really is so xenophobic ,shouldn't we really be asking why the other 27 countries of the EU are not giving the same deal to migrants as whatever it is that attracts so many people to our shores. Is it our fantastic weather or because the UK is a soft touch?

Perhaps it's the hope of meeting nice people like you that makes them risk their lives and that of their children.

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.

So what is wrong with France - if they are genuine asylum seekers then surely anywhere that will give them refuge should be suitable?

Just seen him on the news, bobbing about in a Border Agencey boat patrolling the English Channel.
Apparently no attempted crossings last night.
He might have to de-scale the critical status if things don't buck up a tad.

It's a lot more complicated than that.

We'll be fine - I expect to see Said Javid and Nigel Farage patrolling the channel in their very own gunboat, blasting rubber dinghies full of kids to smithereens, to the gleeful cheers of rampant xenophobes.

Let's hope Nige doesn't pump the Home Secretary full of lead in a case of mistaken identity as the sunlight fades.

These are asylum seekers being moved from France to the UK - I sure the French wouldn't send them in rubber dingys - these are probably asylum seekers that couldn't convince the French of their status. So are they asylum seekers or migrants?

Putting my head on the block a little here.
Know it's a long-shot but I'm gonna say neither and plump for human beings instead.

If the news is to be believed, The French seem to have solved on problem (by makinig it more difficult for people to make it to the UK as stow aways on vehicles crossing The Channel), which has caused those who want to come here illegally, to find alternative routes and hey presto, we now have an issue with "boats" coming over.

The whole assylum seekers issue is interesting as I understood that they have to claim assylum in the first safe country that they arrive in and surely France is equally as safe as the UK ?
