I've always gone by the rule that if I'm driving I don't have an alcoholic drink at all. Simple logic and it seems to work.

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.

You understand what factors are causing these deaths - if its speed then increase the penalties for speeding, its not rocket science

Zero tolerance for driving under the influence and if caught a lifetime driving ban.

The technology exists to prevent banned drivers ever getting to drive again but of course it costs and that is what preventing such an introduction.

Lets face it the "driving test" is a joke, look at how many incompetent drivers get through but couldn't pass a GCSE and are only just articulate, yet they are "capable" of using one of the most lethal weapons on the planet.

Zero tolerance is unenforceable - so that is not an option.

The current driving test is the toughest it has ever been - to say it is joke is simple ludicrous. What the problem is you cannot legislate for testoeroned young men lacking experience. Even if you put the age up how do the new drivers get the essential experience without the driving on the road.

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

One thing you could do is put a curfew and restrictions on drivers for a period of time after passing their test, as they do in other countries

How do they get the experience if you restrict when they can drive - is their evidence to suggest more accidents happen at night time for this group of drivers

Generally it allows them to drive during working/education hours usually without their ' peers ' as passengers, any infringements results in disqualification

What you could do is stop new drivers having zero experience of driving on a motorway, ensure they have experience of driving in rain and at night, its a farce that 5 minutes after passing a test a driver can take a car on a motorway for the first time and without supervision.

If you are stopped and found to be just under the limit in England you are ok , but drive north and get stopped again ten mins later you could be just over their limit and you are going to get a ban . If you are below the English limit , but over the Scot one , will you be banned from driving in England ?

The same way you'd be banned if you were caught over the limit in any EU country.

The justice minister is another spineless idiot who is in the pocket of the chief constable, anything police Scotland want they get.
What should have happened is a graduated system of penalties as they have on the continent with fines and drink awareness courses for those with 50-79mg/L and a ban over 80mg/L

And if you're at the missing 80mg/l ... you get a cigar for brinkmanship?

I can see the sense of being banned from driving in Scotland if you are over the limit that they have set , but surely you should still be allowed to continue to drive in England as you would not have committed an offence there .
There are plenty of ANPR cameras around that could help enforce such bans . They read your registration plate and know if the vehicle is taxed , tested , insured , and who should be driving it . If you drive past one in a vehicle registered to a banned driver then you are instantly pinged to local plod cars and you will be pulled over . I was once stopped four times in one day near York for having no test/tax/insurance , and the vehicle not being registered . Plod said I had been highlighted by local cameras .

As for sorting out the drivers that are involved in the other six out of every seven deaths on Scottish roads .. Is it the drivers that are causing the problem ? Reports have only mentioned 'deaths on Scottish roads' . It could be blamless drivers that are going about their daily business and schoolchildren throwing themselves under the wheels . It could be people jumping from bridges and dying on the road . I am of course assuming that they are only counting human fatalities in their figures .
