Re: TESCO! : Tue Feb 21, 2012 10:01 pm
Not checked whether the figures are right, but this email came to me. If true, a bigger scandal than work experience:

Dear Prime Minister The RT. Hon. David Cameron, MP.

I wish to ask you a Question:- "Is This True?"

I refer to the Pension Reality Check.

Are you aware of the following ?

The British Government provides the following financial assistance:-

BRITISH OLD AGED PENSIONER
(bearing in mind they worked hard and paid their Income Tax and
National Insurance contributions to the British Government all their
working life)

Weekly allowance: £106.00?

IMMIGRANTS/REFUGEES LIVING IN BRITAIN
(No Income Tax and National Insurance contribution whatsoever)

Weekly allowance: £250.00

BRITISH OLD AGED PENSIONER
Weekly Spouse Allowance: £25.00?

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS/REFUGEES LIVING IN BRITAIN
Weekly Spouse Allowance: £225.00

BRITISH OLD AGED PENSIONER
Additional Weekly Hardship Allowance: £0.00?

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS/REFUGEES LIVING IN BRITAIN
Additional Weekly Hardship Allowance: £100.00

A British old age pensioner is no less hard up than an illegal
immigrant/refugee yet receives nothing

BRITISH OLD AGED PENSIONER
TOTAL YEARLY BENEFIT £6,000?

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS/REFUGEES LIVING IN BRITAIN
TOTAL YEARLY BENEFIT: £29,900

Please read all and then forward to all your contacts so that we can
lobby for a decent state pension.

After all, the average pensioner has paid taxes and contributed to the
growth of this country for the last 40 to 60 years.

Sad isn't it? Surely it's about time we put our own people first.

Please have the guts to forward this.

I JUST DID!

Well I'd love to know where these illegal immigrant figures are from.

I'm pretty certain the UK government isn't giving any benefit to people here "illegally" in the true sense of the word.

On topic though - well done to Tesco for what appears a far better scheme than the government one which forced people into working for free.

Indeed, it would be good to see how many they took on full time through this scheme.

Re: TESCO! : Tue Feb 21, 2012 11:01 pm
Well as some of you may know I’ve been recently endorsed by Nick Clegg and that has made some social climbing charities that exploit disabled people respond to me for the first time ever on twitter. It’s amazing what having a connection in high government can do.

Anyhow Mencap need reforming urgently. In return for donation buckets in Co-Ops up & down this country, Mencap have provided Co-Op a steady stream of free labour. I know because I was nearly one of them.

It's pleasing to see that workfare is getting a slamming. But it's my responsibility now not to get too involved in this fight against workfare because I’ve got good things going for me at the moment. I need to focus on setting up my project regardless of whenever I get funding or not. Realistically I have all the resources but ideally I’d like to be paid a wage to be taken off the dole. But I’m not prepared to be a romantic idealist at the expense of something that has the potential to be great.

Earlier today I released a statement with regards to the charities that I’ve had the misfortune to encounter in my life. You can read all about that HERE.

From tomorrow I’m just going to watch the anti-workfare movement from a distance and not get involved. I’ve done my bit and I’m only prepared to do a lot more if I’m given a better platform to express my concerns on.

In all I’m convinced the coalition government deliberately gave corrupt organisations the tools to totally f*** themselves up. It was a given that a strong left wing opposition would completely overwhelm these currupt organisations eventually and that is exactly what’s happening. The likes of Chris Grayling and Ian Duncan Smith are fall guys put in place to help speedup the downfall by making outrageous statements defending the policy.

It’s genius and it’s working!

Damo - like your blog! In our experience, small charities run on shoestrings have been very helpful over the years. More recently we've come across larger ones which provide good information, etc. The ones that are truly, truly useless and downright scum though are the instruments of local government that are supposed to help - education, social services and more widely, sections of the NHS.

Thanks for the compliments!

I agree with all your comments with regards to the charity sector.

When I’ve done activism against certain organisations I’ve sometimes found myself disagreeing with some of my actions. For example I’m a tad ashamed that I tarred the National Autistic Society with Mencap. NAS are more of an information service whilst Mencap are a full on disability exploitation service. Ok NAS are associated with charities/organisations that I absolutely despise such as Remploy. But I do reckon when the times right NAS will publish information on people like myself who’ve had a bad service by this lot. The same happened when I tarred the Princes Trust with a4e.

But I’ve since built bridges with the Princes Trust and currently in negotiations with them to have a twenty minute slot on my podcast so they can talk about unemployment from an experts angle.

In all I’m excited about my possible career in the third sector but I’ve realised I must choose the right things to do and work with the right people for it to be fruitful. It’s all in my hands :)
